About the Principals -

 

Joshua M. Lavine, LUTCF—Josh has been working with businesses and individuals in the financial services industry for over ten years.  He began his career with Aflac providing supplemental employee benefits in 1997.  He was promoted to a district sales coordinator within one year and successfully qualified for the “Founder’s Award for Management Excellence” within the first 12 months.  In 2000, he transitioned to the director of sales for a large MassMutual insurance agency in Bethesda, MD.  As part of his role at MassMutual, he taught advanced classes to licensed insurance agents on a variety of topics including “Employee Benefits.”  In 2001 he earned a designation of “LUTCF” (Life Underwriter’s Training Council Fellow) from the Life Underwriter’s Training Council after successfully enrolling and passing an extended series of classes as both a student and insttructor.  In 2004, Josh left MassMutual to form a benefits specialty company that is now called Capitol Benefits. 

Josh lives in Gaithersburg, MD with his wife Marisa, son Bennett, and two cats.

Steven P. King, QPA, QKA—Steven has been working in the employee benefits field his entire career and has over 15 years of experience working on “both sides of the table” as both a provider and acquirer of group employee benefit plans.  Steven started his career in Human Resources working as a compensation and benefits analyst for several large companies, most notably DuPont in Wilmington, DE.  He later spent several years designing pension plans and consulting with member dealers while at the National Automobile Dealers Association.  Prior to Capitol Benefits, Steven had spent the past six years managing the operations of a local pension administration firm.  In addition to his 10+ years of pension consulting and design experience, Steven has obtained the Qualified Pension Administrator and Qualified 401(k) Administrator’s designation from the American Society of Pension Professionals and Actuaries.

Robert (Bob) Sonken—Bob started BMC Communications in 1998, a professional answering service/communications company. In 2000, Bob sold BMC and began his career in the financial services industry with MassMutual Life Insurance company in Bethesda, MD. In 2003, Bob joined Allstate's workplace benefit division as a Senior Sales Manager. Around the same time, he also formed an employee benefits brokerage firm called HR Group Services. In 2006, Bob joined Capitol Benefits and has transferred his clients from HR Group Services to Capitol Benefits.

Bob lives in Darnestown, MD with his wife Mary, and his two sons. He enjoys traveling with his family and playing sports with his sons.

Jerome (Jerry) Hollander—Jerry has been working in the insurance and financial services business for over 20 years. He has an extensive knowledge of several areas of coverage including home, auto, business, life and health insurance. Jerry has spent time with both large insurance agencies such as MetLife as well as smaller agencies.

Jerry lives with his wife in Montgomery Village, MD. He has two children that are currently living in the New York area.
